Long Term Care – Long-Term Care, Hardly A Mention In The Health Care Debate

The “sandwich generation” is confronted today with the dilemma that millions of other Americans already face: how to take care of loved ones who cannot do so for themselves.

The options on how to provide long-term care come as a shock to most people who find themselves in this situation. Medicare pays only for temporary nursing home stays, and regular health insurance policies don’t cover long-term care. Medicaid does, but only if a person spends down hard-earned assets to be poor enough to qualify. Oh, and when Medicaid does kick in, it tends to be skewed toward putting someone in costly nursing homes, rather than finding ways to help people stay in their own homes and communities as long as possible.

With the number of seniors, whose insurance policies do not provide adequate benefits increasing constantly, these plans have proven to be a boon. The Medigap Plans, which are promoted as the supplementary insurance for people covered under Medicare, have provided an option of affordable health insurance to senior citizens, through which they can get the benefits which are not provided by their current health plans.

Consulting with your doctor will help you decide if your insurance carrier will help you purchase a new power wheelchair. Some companies that specialize in power scooters usually have a specialist on hand that will walk you through the process. They may even offer to check if the Medicare or your insurance company will pay for the entire cost of the power chair. Just give them a call and explain to them your condition and situation they are sure to have a program in place that will assist you in getting a free or low cost power chair.

Whatever your situation or condition if you are having trouble moving around then you will benefit from the use of a power chair so they are worth looking at. Anything that might improve your ability to get around your home or surroundings will improve you quality of life. Using your insurance company or Medicare to help you achieve your goal of mobility is a great idea and a smart one at that.

Seniors might also opt to do the necessary research on their own as they have access to a wide variety of online resources, which can help make things much easier for them
